Marriage is only the beginning of an epic in which a chain of events unfolding at the hearth leads either to collapse or to victory that union of two, the highest point of which is old age, and old age is the time of harvesting of joint sweet memories.
About what:
All events take place in the provincial English town of Middlemarch. The theme of marriage is a common thread – several marriages, successful and not very successful, with their consequences, problems, naive ideas about marriage itself. The topic is relevant to this day.
My impression:
A novel for leisurely and thoughtful reading. There are a lot of characters that you need to get used to and build their kindred tree in your head. And how many apt and witty phrases are here! I stole the book for quotes.
What I liked the most was how realistic and detailed all the characters were. With its pros and cons, views on life and principles. There is no one idealized and without flaws. Exactly as in life.
Her size, of course, is impressive! 800 pages in small print. This generality is due to the fact that initially the novel was published in parts in a newspaper, and was not immediately published as a book.
Half of the book was difficult for me to read, but then events began to unfold so quickly that I swallowed the rest in a couple of days. And then for a few more days I was very impressed and thought over the whole plot. Pleasant aftertaste.
I recommend this book to everyone. It is not for nothing that it is on all “must read” lists. The main thing is to find the right time and mood for her.
