“Uwe’s Second Life” by Frederic Buckman

A man is judged by his deeds. And not by words.

About what:

Uwe is 59 years old – he recently lost his beloved wife and job. Neighbors consider him a grumpy and morose old man. And he completely lost the colors of life. But despite this, inside he is a noble, kind person with fundamental values. Throughout the book, he is revealed to us and the reader can see why he became exactly like that and what actions characterize him most of all.

My impressions:

A sincere, kind, real romance – the same as Uwe himself. Sometimes I read with tears in my eyes, and after a couple of pages I would laugh out loud. I got used to the heroes, as if I was a living witness of what was happening. The story fascinated me and caused an unprecedented response inside. Perhaps this is due to the parallels in my life.

At first, of course, slang scared away. But then I realized that otherwise it would be difficult to reflect the gap between Uwe and the modern generation. And everyday life cannot be separated from this either.

The plot is well structured and, as I like, instructive. Immediately you remember what is important in this life – a loved one and family. And you cannot evaluate a person superficially – sometimes you need to be able to see and dig deeper.

I recommend the book if you want a sincere and “warm” novel. Perfect for cold autumn 🙂
